Greta Van Susteren-Fox has not felt like home to me for a few years
by Nathan'ette Burdine: September 8, 2016

Greta Van Susteren, former host of “On the Record,” let it be known that she hasn’t been happy at Fox News for a while.

Van Susteren wrote on her Facebook page, “Fox has not felt like home to me for a few years and I took advantage of the clause in my contract which allows me to leave now.”

Megyn Kelly is one of the reasons why “Fox has not felt like home” for Van Susteren. Kelly’s rise coincided with Van Susteren’s fall.

Three years ago, a then 39-year-old Kelly made her way into primetime with “The Kelly File” by bumping a then 59-year-old Van Susteren out of the way.

The move angered Van Susteren so that she thought about going to CNN. Van Susteren decided to tough it out for another three years and to instead make her exit on September 6, 2016.

The former “On the Record” host said that her decision to leave the network she’s been with for over a decade is due to “a time limitation” within her contract.

However, recent events suggest that Van Susteren’s exit is not due to “a time limitation” within her contract but to Fox News’ decision to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit against its former CEO Roger Ailes.

Van Susteren’s departure came on the same day that Fox News announced a $20 million settlement with Gretchen Carlson who, along with several other women, accused Ailes of sexual harassment.

The women’s claim received a boost after Kelly said that she also had similar experiences with Ailes.

Van Susteren and her two buddies, Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity, took a different view. They brushed the women aside as being disgruntle workers who were looking for a way to get back at their (Van Susteren, O’Reilly, Hannity) dear friend Roger Ailes.

But as all the evidence started pouring in, it became quite clear that the “Three Amigos’ Gang” only female had to take a different view if she wanted to have a career beyond Fox News.

Van Susteren knows that if she had remained with Fox News that her mere presence, as a top female host, would have given the appearance that she is a woman supporting a man who is increasingly looking guilty of sexual harassment.

So Van Susteren did what many in her position would do, she took the first train smoking.
